The Real Gold – Work in Progress

Axis Mundi

Axis Mundi

I have recently been experimenting with painting on leaf metal. I don’t mean the sort of flat application of gold leaf as  Gustav Klimt did. Rather, the application of translucent glazes over the leaf metal, which brings about an altogether other effect, one that can be quite striking.

There has been a little bit of a learning curve, especially with the leaf metal application. However after spending time out at Peter Gric’s studio working on his picture frames, I have learnt a trick or two.

I am still also learning with applying the glazes, but that is coming along nicely. I think this will definitely be a direction I will continue to explore.

The entire development sequence for the above painting can be seen on the artwork page “Axis Mundi“.
